Abstract: Brazilian road infrastructure is a critical asset that, although essential to the country's sustainable development, is highly exposed and vulnerable to various climatic threats, such as sea level rises in coastal areas, intense precipitation, droughts, and high temperatures intensified by climate change, which, according to projections, may still grow in proportion. Thus, this study aims to conduct an extensive literature review on climate change impacts on the Brazilian road infrastructure, a subject that literature has given little attention to. However, special attention, such as possible responses to the current and future climate emergency, as well as the major challenges faced in their adoption in Brazil, is given to adaptation strategies for the sector. Brazil is one of the countries that make up the BRICS (an acronym developed to associate five major emerging economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The results show that the country needs strategic urban planning integrated with the climate change adaptation agenda linked to the 14 main guidelines/actions. As part of the important elements for promoting resilience, it is believed that creating a roads Adaptation Plan to climate change must present a structure that includes all stakeholders, such as governments, road concessionaires, public and private institutions, and cross-scale management (involving local, regional, and national boundaries) to avoid generating new exposures and vulnerabilities. It is advisable to consider training and dissemination of information on climate change as one of the thematic issues that are still deficient in Brazil.
